Cup Cricket: Cresselly’s Lord’s dreams dashed for another season

Cresselly’s dreams of a Lord’s Final are over for another season after their 42 runs defeat at home to Leicestershire team Langtons in the Watsons Village Cup.

The visitors got off the a flying start in an opening stand of 158 between Sarfrez Boriyhwal with 97, including seven 6s and four 4s, and Mubarat Patel with 75, including three 6s and nine 4s.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals as Simon Cole took 4-28, with Sam Harts and Mike Shaw picking up two wickets as Langtons were bowled out for 247.

Cresselly battled hard to overtake the Langtons total, but the innings closed on 205-9 as the hosts found it difficult to maintain the necessary run rate without losing wickets.

Iwan Izzard displayed his full range of strokes to a large crowd in his innings of 74, with eight 4s and a six, and Simon Cole completed a good all-round match with 43, including seven 4s.
