St Florence girls football

St. Florence Girls welcomed Camrose for their latest round of games. The Under 10s team was kindly sponsored by Gavin Lloyd Mortgage and Protection Specialist and the Under 12s game by Kookaba, Saundersfoot.

Under 8s

With St. Florence U8s only having three girls, Camrose gave one of their players so they could play four-a-side.

On a lovely sunny morning, both teams played some good football. St. Florence scored first when Libby’s shot hit the net. Camrose soon equalised in what turned out to be an even game.

Libby got two more goals before half-time with help from Kate and Pearl. But Camrose managed to score three more, which made it 4-3 to them at the break.

In the second half, the St. Florence girls started to tire in the sun. Camrose took advantage to score two quick goals.

St. Florence managed to get a goal back when a shot from Kate deflected off a Camrose player into the goal.

Camrose again came back to score two really good goals. But the final goal was scored by St. Florence when a brilliant run down the wing by Pearl saw her taking on two defenders, before finishing it off with a good shot to end the game.

Final score: St. Florence 5 Camrose 8.

St. Florence team: Pearl, Libby and Kate.

Under 10s

The U10s consisted of Ella, Sienna, Laura, Ella, Ruby, Bella, Hetty and Zoe.

The girls produced an excellent team preformance, with some excellent passing, particularly between Ella and Ruby, who were rewarded with Ella getting six goals and Ruby five.

Sienna, growing in confidence, was starting attacks from defence with some neat dribbling and passing and was unlucky not to get her first goal of the season, hitting the post. Ella returned to the team with some well-taken goals and assists.

Ellie had little to do in goal, but produced some nice saves when called into action. Ruby took on the role of captain with gusto. Hetty’s continual running and closing down of the Camrose defence was rewarded with two goals.

Laura continued to show great composure with her passing in midfield. Zoe and Bella also worked tirelessly in midfield, both gaining confidence with every game, with Zoe unlucky not to score and Bella setting up Ruby with a fine assist.

Camrose battled hard and were a credit to their club. The Camrose goalkeeper produced some excellent saves in the second half.

The final score was 13-0, with both teams a credit to their respective clubs. Well done.

Under 12s

With only three games left in the league this season, the U12s knew that only three wins would be good enough to have a chance of winning the league.

Camrose had a full team this week, so it was going to be tougher for the St. Florence girls.

St. Florence were on the attack from the start, but it took a while to break through the Camrose defence as they blocked the shots and the ’keeper made some good saves.

The first goal came when Fiona got some space and her shot hit the net. Teigan scored the second after a good pass by Charlotte. It was the same combination for the next goal when Charlotte’s cross from the left was finished off by Teigan.

Emily got on the scoresheet next with a great left-foot shot. She was unlucky not to score another when another great shot just went wide of the goal. After setting up two goals already, Charlotte scored two for herself with two great shots from the lefthand side of the area into the goal.

Camrose never gave up and managed to break through the St. Florence defence to score. The first half finished 6-1.

The second half started like the first, with St. Florence being frustrated by the Camrose defence and it took a while before Mabli’s shot came back off the ’keeper for Alex to finish off.

Fiona got her second after a pass from Florence gave her a chance to shoot. Teigan had a great shot that hit the post and Alex was there again following in to score her second.

There were some really good performances by the St. Florence girls. Fiona on the right wing and Charlotte on the left were causing Camrose problems all game. Teigan looked dangerous in front of goal again. And Ella made sure that Camrose didn’t get any more chances in the second half with a great display in defence.

The last goal came when Emily, playing in goal for the second half, kicked the ball over the Camrose defence for Teigan to run onto and finish with a great strike to score St. Florence’s 10th of the day.

It was a really good game played in the right spirit by both teams. The final score was 10-1.

St. Florence team: Emily, Ella, Maddie, Fiona, Mabli, Alex, Teaghan, Nancy, Marli, Charlotte, Teigan Kacy, Tamika and Florence.

All the girls would like to thank Gavin B. Lloyd Mortgage and Protection Specialist and the Hughes family for sponsoring the games.
